Committees

Standing Committees provide essential services to enhance membership in SCA.

Committee Chairs are not elected (exception: Nominating Committee), rather, Chairs are SCA member volunteers appointed or reappointed annually by the President with Board approval.

SCA members are encouraged to volunteer!  To inquire about volunteering for a specific committee, contact its Chair.


Awards
Administers SCA's various awards; develops criteria for the awards, promotes the awards, and selects recipients.

Development
Fund-raises to support SCA's activities and programs, through both member gifts and outside funding sources.

Education
Provides archival education and professional development; coordinates several workshops each year, analyzes the educational needs of SCA members, and pursues other training opportunities.

Election
Conducts annual elections for SCA Board member positions.

Electronic Communications (formerly "Website")
Designs, maintains and updates the SCA website, and SCA social media sites, to facilitate communication among SCA members and others.

Finance and Investment
Manages SCA’s assets; advises the Board of SCA's financial outlook.

Government Affairs
Monitors national, state and local legislation,
governmental funding agencies, political appointments, and political issues of interest to archivists; coordinates special governmental projects.

Local Arrangements (AGM)
Manages all physical arrangements of the Annual General Meeting (hotel, event venues, catering, travel, etc).

Membership
Solicits new members, renews existing memberships, manages the current interests and concerns of the membership, and encourages participation in SCA activities and programs.

Nominating
Solicits candidates for SCA Board member positions, prepares a slate of candidates for offices falling vacant within a given year. (This is the only committee whose members are elected.)

Outreach and Publicity

Disseminates information about the archival profession and about SCA activities to allied organizations and professions and the public.

Program (AGM)
Plans and presents the program of the Annual General Meeting;
develops a theme, contacts speaker candidates, solicits and reviews session proposals.

Publications
Develops, produces and markets SCA’s publications: the SCA Newsletter, the Directory of Archival and Manuscript Repositories in California, and other publications.

Site Selection (AGM)
Locates and recommends to the Board options for hotel sites for the Annual General Meeting in the city or area designated by the Board, according to prescribed criteria.

Western Archives Institute Joint Management
Plans, develops, and oversees the Western Archives Institute (WAI), a two-week archival training program held each summer; consists of representatives from the California State Archives, SCA Board and WAI.

Special Committees
